Hippopotamyrus Pappenheim 1906

Molecular phylogenetic evidence supports monophyly of the type species, H. castor from Lower Guinea-Cameroon with Nilo-Sudanic H. pictus and H. paugyi from West Africa. Other species that formerly were placed in this genus have been moved to Heteromormyrus.  ~ JPS
