Description:
Mormyrops zanclirostris (top) and M. boulengeri (bottom) and their electric organ discharges, collected together in Odzala Park in the Republic of Congo. Relative to M. zanclirostris, M. boulengeri can be distinguished by its more conical head and more slender and curved snout and eight versus 12 circumpeduncular scales. Furthermore, the electric organ discharges are strikingly different. That of M. zanclirostris has an initial head negative phase, followed by a head positiive phase, while the reverse is true for that of M. boulengeri.
