Artisanal, but very intensively diamond mining is a very important threat in small rivers in the Kasai region. The sand from digging in the river and the river beds causes sedimentation.

General Description:
Translated from original description in Poll (1967):
Description of the holotype. Body depth 4.3 times HL (measured between tip of snout to the posterior edge of opercular opening), 2.5 times in the standard length. Head 5.25 times as long as wide, 2.55 times longer than deep. Snout extended into tube, moderately long, strongly compressed, 8.25 times as long as deep, with chin appendage that is 14.5 times HL, 1.15 times in the eye diameter. Eye 12.35 times in length of head, 9 times in the snout length, 1.1 times in the interoculor width. Dorsal with 31 rays, its base 1.6 times in the distance that separates it from the head, 3.4 times in the distance that separates it from the tip of the snout. Longest ray 3.35 times in the HL. Anal with 35 rays, its base 1.25 times in the distance that separates it from the head. Longest ray 3.65 times HL. Caudal peduncle 2.7 times as long as deep. Lateral line scales 86, 25 / 21 between the origin of the dorsal and anal, 20 around caudal peduncle. Teeth 3 / 3. Brownish, darker on back, a large oblique band between dorsal and anal, not noticeably wider in the middle and followed by a second band behind the fins. All fins grayish.

Range Description:
Campylomormyrus tshokwe is known from the Kwango and Kasai River systems, Central Congo River basin. It is probably more widespread than currently known. The recent study of Feulner et al. 2007 confirms the presence of this species in the main channel of the Lower Congo below Pool Malebo.
