Campylomormyrus mirus is known from the Central Congo River itself, including the Wagenia Falls (Stanley Falls) and from the Uele system, Central Congo River basin.

Campylomormyrus mirus is known from the Central Congo River basin. Overfishing on the Central Congo River and mining for gold north of the Congo stream pose threats to this species. The AOO is however thought to exceed 2,000 km; the species is thus listed as Least Concern.
