Pollimyrus nigricans (Boulenger, 1906)
EOL Text
Favors the shallow mud bottom waters near fringing vegetation such as papyrus and Vossia. Feeds mainly on Caridina and caenid larvae (Ref. 9606). Oviparous (Ref. 205). A male to female ratio of 1:10.5 has been noted for this species (Ref. 10608). Migrates up the river to spawn (Ref. 10608).

The dark stonebasher (Pollimyrus nigricans) is a species of fish in the Mormyridae family.

Location[edit]
It is found in Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. In Africa, they can be found at Lake Victoria, Nabugabo and Kyoga; the Kiruni River (Semliki Valley), Malagarasi River and Tanganyika Lake. [1]
Biology[edit]
Its natural habitats are rivers, swamps, freshwater lakes, freshwater marshes, and inland deltas. It can be found in tropical climates. They are also known to swim up the river to spawn. The Dark stonebasher also prefers the shallow muddy bottom of waters near vegetation. [1]
Feeding[edit]
The Dark stonebasher mainly feeds on Caridina and caenid larvae. [1]
Threats[edit]
It is threatened by habitat loss.

Potamodromous. Migrating within streams, migratory in rivers, e.g. Saliminus, Moxostoma, Labeo. Migrations should be cyclical and predictable and cover more than 100 km.
