Neotype: MRAC 87685. Original holotype in Liverpool Mus., apparently lost. Neotype designated by Boden et al. 1997.
Taxonomic notes:
Gnathonemus lambouri Pellegrin, 1904 removed from synonymy with M. moorii by Baba et al. (2019) and validity restored.
Gnathonemus moorii longulus David & Poll, 1937 removed from synonymy with M. moorii and placed in synonymy with Marcusenius lambouri (Pellegrin, 1904) by Baba et al. (2019).
Type locality:
Ogowe River at Talagouga (just downstream of Ndjole), Gabon.
