Currently Gnathonemus gracilis Pellegrin, 1922 is treated as Marcusenius senegalensis gracilis (Pellegrin, 1922) rendering Marcusenius gracilis Kramer 2013 a secondary junior homonym. Replacement name for the latter proposed in Fricke & Kramer, 2022.
