Not known, but common in fisheries catches in middle Akagera. Large extent of occurrence but rarely encountered. Nowhere considered common (Greenwood 1966).

Biology:

Occurs in shallow inshore waters over both sandy and rocky bottoms, appearing seasonally over muddy bottoms adjacent to extensive papyrus swamps. Also found in deep water, near rocky islands. Feeds on large libellulid nymphs and other large prey (Ref. 9606). Oviparous (Ref. 205). Migrates up the river to spawn (Ref. 10608).
