Range Description:
M. oudoti is known only from the type collected in the Niger at Bamako. Reports of this species from other basins are based on misidentifications (Bigorne 1987)

More or less massive body than M. caballus. Narrow head (length/interorbital space ratio 10 to 1), snout similar to M. caballus. Uniformly dark with neck and stomach much clearer. With depression in the middle between gills and eyes. Eyes laterally situated. Anal fin origin before dorsal fin origin.
