Type material:
Holotype (unique): MD 5575.
Taxonomic notes:
Because the type locality of this species is in the Zambezi headwaters, well outside the known distribution of Paramormyrops within the Lower Guinea and Congo River basins this species is more likely to be an emaciated Pollimyrus cf. castelnaui. [Note: Pollimyrus castelnaui MRAC 158004 - 158012 collected nearby in 1955. Type locality:
Nharicumbi village, 12°S, 21°10'E, Longa River tributary of Luena River (Zambezi River basin), Angola. [village found on map at UTexas collection, 12°10' S, 21° 05.5' E]
