Range Description:

Paramormyrops sphekodes is a Lower Guinea endemic. The holotype and one additional specimen of this species were collected by A. Marche in the Ogowe River in or near rapids near the village of Doumé (present-day Lastoursville). Since then many specimens have been identified as P. sphekodes based on similarity with the original specimens.

Africa: Ogowe River and other coastal River basins in Cameroon, Gabon and Republic of Congo (Ref. 81635). Reports from the Congo River basin (Ref. 3203, 51193, 88779) are not confirmed (Ref. 81635).

Distribution:

A Lower Guinea endemic. The holotype and one additional specimen of this species were collected in 1876 by Alfred Marche in the Ogowe River at Doumé (35 km upstream of Lastoursville, Gabon). Since then many specimens have been identified as P. sphekodes based on similarity with the original specimens. New collections from Doumé are currently under study by the authors.

A moderate to small Paramormyrops, with an elongated body (Ref. 81635). The head and snout are relatively short; upper profile of the head is rounded; snout is V-shaped from above (Ref. 81635). Its colour in alcohol is uniformly light brown (Ref. 81635).
