Boulengeromyrus Taverne & Géry, 1968

Boulengeromyrus Taverne & Géry is a monotypic genus, endemic to Gabon and southern Cameroon, characterized by the following combination of characters: an elongate, laterally compressed body and long, well defined caudal peduncle. Elongate head with an extended, non-tubular snout which is 50–60% as long as the post-orbital length of the head. No sub-mental swelling or filament. 12 circumpeduncular scales, and bicuspid teeth arranged in a single row in each jaw numbering 5 in the upper and 6 in the lower jaws. The pelvic fins are closer to the pectorals than the anal. The dorsal fin is posterior to and slightly shorter than the anal fin. Boulengeromyrus is also characterized by a number of osteological characters described in Taverne & Géry (1968) and Taverne (1969). Molecular phylogenetic studies suggests that Boulengeromyrus forms a monophyletic group with Ivindomyrus (Lavoué et al., 2000; Lavoué et al., 2003; Sullivan et al., 2000).
