Marcusenius bentleyi is only known from the type locality, Wagenia Falls (Stanley Falls), Congo River.

Distribution:

Known only from type specimen taken at Stanley Falls, Congo River. Record in FishBase from Gabon certainly in error (not seen, but likely a Marcusenius ntemensis, a species with a similar head profile).

Marcusenius bentleyi is only known from the type locality, Wagenia Falls (Stanley Falls), Congo River. The species may be more widespread than is currently known. More information is needed on the species distribution before an assessment can be made.
