One of two very elongate Mormyrops with non-tubular snouts in Lower Guinea (depth more than 5.9 times into SL). The other, M. breviceps, is distinguished from M. caballus by the wider head profile when viewed from above. The ratio of the HL to interorbital width is 10–18 compared to 9 in M. breviceps (see BIGORNE, 1987).
