Africa: all Sahelo-Sudanese river basins (Ref. 81274); including Senegal River, Gambia River, Niger River, Volta River, Ouémé River, Ogun River and Chad basin (Ref. 2915). Also in Nile River basin, up to Albert and Murchison Niles (Ref. 3203).

Hyperopisus bebe is a species of elephantfish in the family Mormyridae. It is the only species in its genus and is divided into two subspecies. This species is known from many rivers in the northern half of Africa, ranging from the Senegal to the Nile basin.[1] It reaches a length of 51 cm.[1]

Potamodromous. Migrating within streams, migratory in rivers, e.g. Saliminus, Moxostoma, Labeo. Migrations should be cyclical and predictable and cover more than 100 km.
